City officials are holding a public hearing to comment on the proposal to give developers a break. The proposal is to give the developers of the processing plant in Broome County, New York a Payment in Lieu of Taxes or “PILOT” deal to jumpstart the facility, WNBF reports.
Canopy Growth is the company pushing the proposal through. The vote has already passed in the Broome County’s industrial development division, and is moving forward with the proposal by holding a public hearing.
In July, Canopy Growth broke ground at the former Shop-Vac plant on Pine Camp Road, and was expected to be operating by fall of 2019.
Now the company has missed the deadline and is seeking funds to help renovate the factory building. The original groundbreaking took place just weeks after the CEO of the Canadian company stepped down and was replaced.
