The Ministry of Agriculture in Ecuador has set the stage for the country’s hemp industry development by releasing new regulations. These regulations will guide seed production, farming, processing, export, and marketing in the hemp production chain.
The Ecuadorian economy will get a boost financially from hemp production.
Issuing of the regulations meant a new era for the agriculture sector in Ecuador. The regulations specify requirements under various categories of licenses. Validity is ten years and can be renewed 90 days before the expiration date.
Ecuadorian National Assembly paved the way for the hemp industry by decriminalizing cultivation and production of marijuana products in September 2019, setting the limit for THC in hemp at 1.0%.
Exporting of seeds is regulated under the Organic Law of Agricultural Health. As for derivatives, this will be done by those licensed for that activity.
The country’s national agriculture information agency will create a National Register of Licensees that contains information on licenses that have been issued, revoked, suspended, or not renewed.
This is now a historic milestone for the Canamo Industrial Ecuador that has signed with the Ministerial Agreement 109 and has enabled up to 1% THC to regulate licensing in the cultivation, commercialization, processing, and export of industrial hemp.
With these regulations set, Ecuador has future prospects to boost its economy through the cultivation and production of marijuana. It is also beneficial for the agribusiness sector.
