According to a new study, you can add fruit preservation to the perks of CBD oil. South Florida University’s researchers found that non-intoxicating CBD helps strawberries remain fresh.
The study tested CBD antimicrobial effects by dumping CBD oil strawberries after harvesting. The researchers wanted to determine if such an exercise would inhibit microbial growth and improve shelf life.
The study’s paper extract states that strawberries were analyzed for microbial load and visual quality during and before storage. It pointed out that the study’s results indicate CBD was proficient in maintaining the strawberries’ visual appearance compared to untreated fruits.
The treated strawberries also showed a lower microbial load than the untreated ones. This also culminated into minimal yeast and mold production.
The researchers concluded that although the research was concentrated on strawberries, the output shows that CBD oil has burgeoning potential to be an antimicrobial solution for fresh products.
To attain the shelf-life extension, researchers kept the CBD-treated strawberry at one degree Celsius for eight days and ten degrees Celsius for eight days. The findings indicate that cannabinoid oil can be used by patrons at home as an efficient antimicrobial treatment and to boost strawberries’ shelf life.
A disparate research released in early 2020 shows the prospects of cannabinoid-infused mouthwash.
The recent strawberry study shows that due to existing prohibitive state regulations on the marijuana compound, there’re still a glut of uncertainties concerning cannabinoid use as a food additive.
This could change as the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) continues finalizing CBD regulations.
The department delivered an update on its CBD regulatory approach during March as instructed under appropriations legislation implemented in late 2019. The update asserted that FDA is presently analyzing the provision of risk-related enactment reforms that would create more clarity and transparency concerning aspects FDA plans to consider when prioritizing enactment decisions.
The agency is also in the quest to award a contract for CBD research studies as it creates regulations for products with non-intoxicating CBD.
